The organising of the Dorin Mircea Ratiu painting exhibition is part of a program systematically pursued, by the Cluj Napoca Art Museum, a program that stimulates the rise of amateur artists that have genuine artistic drive. This program is mostly run in collaboration with the "Filarmonia Cultural
Society".

Born in Cluj, in 1955, Dorin Mircea Ratiu lives in the heart ofTransylvania, in his home town, with the buring desire to escape the public place that's increasingly overwhelming, and the more and more aggressive urban crowd, into a warm and cosy intimacy, a desire born from a sensitive and introvert disposition. The romantic desire to be somewhere else had found a privileged spot: Vama Veche (which gave birth to his
notorious call-sign: "Vamist"), while the European wanders have placed him in gentle touch with famous locations charged with cultural meanings, landmarks that he had loved firsthand from literature and images borne by great Romanian and foreign painters. Dorin Mircea Ratiu's sensitive soul has discovered, in its own artistic endowment, the place to focus his spiritual energies, protecting them from the danger of dissipating into life's every day needs: discovering painting, he has cultivated the natural gift of prodigious observation and that of setting the data provided, into an extremely accurate visual image.
He has chosen a well-pleinairist tradition pictorial path in the gentle bond with his specific, harmonious and light-quivering nature, and has persevered in taking in the morphology of a figurative idiom of
realist-impressionist type. He has endowed this idiom with shades of meaning, definitely choosing the fluent
techniques of the watercolour, the gouache, and the dominating palette of warm tones, in concordance to the reality's data and to his own discreet and lyrically vibrating feelings.

Encouraged by the beloved ones as well as by the public's favourable reaction, Dorin Mircea Ratiu has gradually become a "public figure": he has attended international painting camps and group exhibitions. Overcoming this bashfulness, he held art displays in Cluj Napoca, Vama Veche and France. The personal exhibition that Dorin Mircea Ratiu is holding in the "Atelier" rooms ofthe Cluj Art Museum is bringing together paintings that are representative for his work, under the generic name "The wanders of a Vamist".
These works confirm the sturdiness of the artistic grounds that the artist upholds, with constant passion, underthe undeniable sign of sincerity.
